Autumn weather has finally arrived and there are tons of things to look forward to in Wilmington this year! The DuPont Theatre is bringing the quirky Broadway hit Cirkopolis to the stage, Ramsey’s Farm is offering fall favorites like candy apples, hayrides and pumpkin patches, and it’s rock climbing season on West 18th Street. For the older crowd, Oktoberfest is holding an after hours bash at the Iron Brewery. With all the festivities, you might find it hard to prioritize, so we’ve put together a list of the top 5 must see events coming to Wilmington this fall.
#1. The Halloween Hoopla
This event is a combination of racing for charity and competing for best Halloween costume. The 5K run begins on Saturday, October 26th at the Wilmington River Front. Registration opens at 9 AM and the race will start an hour later. Proceeds benefit the Kind to Kids Foundation and prizes will be awarded for best costume – still, those who choose to jog without a costume can still partake in the fun! This event features live music, face painting, and Halloween candy giveaways for trick-or-treaters. Children under five are admitted for free. The Halloween Hoopla is a delightful way to give back to the community.

#2. The Delaware Auto Show
In Wilmington, spirit isn’t just about dressing up in Halloween costumes – plenty of people will also be dressing up their engines this year in the spirit of turbo and chassis. The annual motor lover’s parade will take place at the Wilmington Chase Center on the weekend of October 4th and will feature luxury model sports cars and classic restored vehicles. The Delaware Auto Show is also a charity event that gives back to Dupont Hospital for Children and the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.

#3. Plein Air Brandywine Valley
This event is for art lovers everywhere! The Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition is an art-inspired gala with whopping cash prizes. Painters and photographers will have a weeklong opportunity to showcase their talents in a virtual paint-off and their masterpieces will be on display on October 25th at The Visitor Center of Winterthur Museum and Garden.

#4. The Delaware Children’s Theatre Musicals
Two Broadway classics will take the stage at The Delaware Children’s Theatre this fall. Little Orphan Annie will be in the spotlight from October 5th to November 3rd each Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM, and The Wizard of Oz will follow suit in November. Tickets are moderately priced and both musicals are family-friendly.

#5. The Ice Age Imperials
Make way for the saber tooth cat and woolly mammoth this fall! A unique collection of Ice Age-era animals will make their debut at the Delaware Museum of Natural History on October 12th. This new display will feature real life fossils from a time when ancient creatures roamed the earth.
